Bloodveil is a dark fantasy action RPG developed in Unreal Engine 5. You play as Arthur Blackwood, a powerful vampire hunter who preys on his own kind. Explore vast open-world maps, hunt down dangerous vampires, and grow stronger by gaining XP and powerful weapons. The game features fast-paced combat, deep progression systems, and a free-to-play experience.

Gameplay Overview
In Bloodveil, players take control of Arthur Blackwood, a vampire warrior who hunts his own kind. The game features large open-world environments, where you will battle waves of vampires and other supernatural creatures.

At the start, you wield basic weapons and abilities, but as you gain XP and defeat stronger enemies, you unlock more powerful weapons, special abilities, and upgrades. Strategic combat, resource management, and exploration are key to surviving the ever-growing threat of the vampire hordes.

The game's combat system blends hack-and-slash action with RPG elements, offering a dynamic and engaging experience for players who enjoy deep progression and intense battles.

Backstory: Arthur Blackwood was born under a cursed moon, his fate bound to shadows before he could even walk. The son of a forgotten bloodline, he was raised in exile, never knowing the truth of his lineage. His earliest memories were of survival—fighting for scraps, training in the cold, and dreaming of a day when he would be powerful enough to carve his own destiny.

Legends whispered of the Blackwood Curse, a taint in his blood that sealed away his true strength. For years, he searched for a way to break his limits, diving into ancient tomes, forbidden magic, and brutal training that shattered his body but never his will. Every defeat only fueled his obsession. Every victory felt hollow. He was never strong enough.

But everything changed when he uncovered the name Victor Blackwood—a long-dead warlord, erased from history. Digging deeper, Arthur unearthed a truth buried in blood and betrayal: Victor still lived, and he was watching.

Now, caught in a web of conspiracies older than empires, Arthur finds himself hunted by forces beyond his comprehension. To survive, he must become stronger. To rise, he must embrace the darkness in his blood. And if he must burn the world to claim his rightful power—so be it.

Backstory: Once, Victor Blackwood was the proud general of Lord Alistair Nocturne, the most feared vampire lord in the land. A master tactician and a warrior of unyielding discipline, Victor led Alistair’s legions into countless victories, crushing any who dared to oppose the dominion of darkness. His loyalty was absolute—until the night he was betrayed.

Alistair, ever paranoid of threats to his rule, saw Victor’s growing renown as a danger. A king must not have a knight more revered than himself. With cold calculation, he orchestrated Victor’s downfall. Under the guise of a grand campaign, Alistair lured Victor and his most trusted knights into a massacre. His soldiers were butchered, and Victor, once a proud general, was cast into the Abyss of Thorns—a prison where the condemned are left to wither in eternal torment.

But Victor did not die. For a hundred years, he clawed his way through agony and madness, feeding on the blood of vermin, his mind a furnace of rage and vengeance. In the darkness, he forged himself anew—not as a general, but as a phantom, a harbinger of wrath. Disguising himself as a humble butler, he infiltrated the high courts of vampires, whispering poison into the ears of Alistair’s allies, sowing doubt and discord. Once a noble samurai, Ryoji fought to overthrow a corrupt warlord, only to be betrayed by his own comrades. Left for dead in a forbidden forest, he was discovered by an ancient vampire who offered him a second chance—at a terrible cost. Now, cursed with immortality, he walks the line between man and monster, his blade fueled by blood and vengeance. Though his heart still clings to the honor of a warrior, his thirst for battle grows stronger with each passing night.

Ryoji's vampiric nature grants him inhuman speed, strength, and reflexes, making him a force of death on the battlefield. His cursed katana, bound to his very soul, grows stronger with each foe he cuts down, drinking deep from the fallen. In the darkness, he becomes a ghost, moving unseen before striking with merciless precision. Yet, for all his power, he is still haunted by his past. The war he fought, the friends he lost, and the monster he has become—all weigh heavily on his soul.

Stoic and disciplined, Ryoji remains bound to the way of the warrior, though the path ahead is uncertain. Is he a savior, a hunter of the wicked, or a beast waiting to be unleashed? He does not know. All he understands is that his blade must never rest. Whether he fights for vengeance, redemption, or something beyond the grasp of men, he will carve his fate into the world—one stroke at a time.

December – Early January: Core Development & Prototyping

Game Concept: BloodVeil is a dark fantasy action RPG where you play as a weak vampire trying to become the most powerful in the land. To survive, you must hunt other vampires, absorb their strength, and evolve your abilities. But lurking in the shadows are powerful vampire bosses who stand in your way.

  • Core Combat System: Develop fast-paced melee combat with weapons and vampire abilities.
  • Strength Absorption Mechanic: Killing vampires allows you to absorb their power, gaining strength and new abilities.
  • Enemy AI & World Design: Design a dark, gothic world filled with rival vampires roaming the land.
  • Basic Progression System: Implement leveling mechanics, stat boosts, and ability unlocks.

Mid-January – Early February: Feature Expansion & Content Creation

Evolving Gameplay: By now, players should start feeling the progression from a weak vampire to a formidable force. The world will become more dangerous as new, stronger enemies appear.

  • New Vampire Abilities: Unlock blood magic, shadow movement, and life-stealing attacks.
  • Vampire Factions: Introduce rival vampire clans with unique fighting styles.
  • Boss Development: Design the first vampire boss, featuring powerful attacks and weaknesses.
  • Weapons & Gear: Expand the arsenal with swords, claws, and magical artifacts.
  • Immersive Worldbuilding: Add detailed environments, gothic castles, and eerie forests.

February 15 – March 1: Polish & Playtest Preparation

Preparing for Players: At this stage, BloodVeil should be fully playable, but needs refinement. Testing ensures that combat, movement, and enemy behavior feel fluid and rewarding.

  • Final Boss Battle Refinement: Ensure that the first major boss battle is balanced and engaging.
  • Optimization & Performance Fixes: Improve frame rates, fix lag, and ensure smooth gameplay.
  • Refine UI & HUD: Enhance the interface for health bars, ability cooldowns, and inventory.
  • Player Feedback System: Implement a way for early testers to report issues and suggest improvements.
  • Marketing Push: Release gameplay teasers, trailers, and start building hype.

March 1: Public Playtest (Steam & Itch.io)

  • Early access build goes live for players to experience the core gameplay.

March 2 – March 20: Final Adjustments & Pre-Launch Polish

    • Fixed an issue where players could get stuck in certain areas of the Cursed Medieval Village.
    • Fixed a bug in the character creation menu where appearance changes wouldn’t save properly.
    • Fixed a visual issue where some character designs wouldn’t load correctly after restarting the game.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the game be released?
The first public playtest will begin on March 1st, 2025. This playtest will include the core fundamental features of the game. We will use this opportunity to gather player feedback and data to refine and improve the game before its early access launch.
How much will the game cost?
The game will be completely free to play. However, players will have the option to purchase cosmetic items in the in-game shop.
Can I play offline?
For the upcoming playtest, only the offline version will be available, allowing you to freely explore different maps. However, the official launch will include a multiplayer mode as well.
Can I play with a controller?
Yes! The game supports both controllers and keyboard & mouse.
What are the main objectives of the game?
The goal is to take control of the entire map by hunting various vampires. Once you’ve cleared the area, you will face a powerful boss that, when defeated, rewards you with XP and new weapons.
Are there plans for new content or DLC?
Yes, we have plans for new content and DLC, but these won’t be released until several months after launch. Our priority is to ensure the game is polished and free of major bugs before adding additional content.
Do I need an account to play?
Yes, you will need either a Steam or Itch.io account to play.
How long does it take to complete the game?
Playtest version: Approximately 20 hours. Official launch version: Estimated to offer 100+ hours of gameplay.
